We are just a few days away from officially welcoming Summer, although let’s be honest – who hasn’t been thinking about it for at least the last month now? The big roll of paper is coming out for the Jaffer Summer Fun list which will hang on our pantry door as it did last year – kind of like a wish list of what we’d like to see and do over the next couple months. Simple things like eating ice cream on the boardwalk, setting up a lemonade stand, and checking out a new park will likely make the list again this year. And guaranteed there will be plenty of days when they will be ‘bored’ – and I will dream about September – but it wouldn’t be summer holidays if the days didn’t stretch on for miles, right? Plus we’ve also got a couple trips lined up that we are all excited about. I’ll be sharing our list in a future post – stay tuned!

I’m particularly looking forward to the trips because the last 6 months warrant some time off! Although it’s never totally ‘off’ time when you’re travelling with your children, there’s just something about being in a new environment that makes moods lighter, and brings families closer together. And well, you don’t get much closer than a road trip, do you?

Yes, we are travelling by car to Calgary for my cousin’s wedding. The wedding in and of itself is very special because it celebrates two people I am quite fond of. My cousin, Casim, is really like a brother to me; he is always there for me and my family in good times and bad. The evening I told him my mom was admitted to palliative care, he booked a flight and was at her bedside the next morning before I even got there! He has welcomed each of my children when they were born, visiting as often as he can and always asking about them when he is not here. When he brought Nathania to our place last fall and told us his plans to propose to her we were over the moon. The kids fell in love with her and I am looking forward to adding another sister to my family. We wouldn’t miss their wedding for the world.

My husband got the bright idea that since we were already in vacation mode with a car full of children and  necessities, why not find a cottage by a lake and chill out for a few nights? Um, YES! He didn’t have to ask twice! After some internet research we stumbled upon Scotch Creek Cottages which looks exactly like what we need. Mama’s going swimming in a lake! (Fun fact about me: I am squeamish about swimming in a public pool – dead skin cells, germs and all that floating around – but give me a lake and good luck trying to get me out!)

When vacationing in our own backyard (because how can you not when you live in B.C.?), our go-to place for family fun is always Harrison Hot Springs. This year, we are being given the opportunity to stay at Springs RV Resort and we couldn’t be more excited! Our kids have never stayed in an RV so that on its own will be the big adventure. On top of that we get to enjoy their fabulous amenities while being a stroll away from the village and lake.

I will definitely keep you posted on these two B.C. gems – where do you like to vacation in your backyard?

On another note, baby girl is 6 months old today and for me it feels like I’m entering a new phase. We’re introducing solid foods by Baby-Led Weaning, she’s learning to sit (which looks like wobble, wobble, steady, wobble…aaaaand flop) and she is definitely more baby than newborn. And me? I’m enjoying more time between feeds, a little more social time, and getting some great ideas of where I want to take my family and business in this next phase. Thanks for joining me on this ride!
