How many of you have read The Artist’s Way? This book was instrumental in unblocking me creatively and giving me permission to start my self-recovery a few years back. Inspired by Julia’s 12 week program of reading, writing and discovering, I went on to read her autobiography, Floor Sample. Wow. If you have worked through The Artist’s Way, I encourage you to read her words about her life. It will blow your mind what this amazing woman has journeyed through. It certainly gave me enormous respect for her in addition to the gratitude I felt for her workbook.
The Artist’s Way is peppered with brilliant quotes that probe the realms of spirituality and creativity. The one I have been thinking of these past few days is: Treating myself like a precious object makes me strong.
Now there’s an affirmation of self-love.
There is no weakness in needing a break. There is no shame in asking for help. There is no fault in drawing the line and choosing myself over yet another commitment.
Taking breaks, accepting help, sinking into a bubble bath instead of a stressful project will build, repair and fortify me. I’m sure it will do wonders for you, too.
How are you going to treat yourself like a precious object this week? How will you allow yourself to build back up? When was the last time you regarded words like precious, delicate, sensitive as indications of strength rather than weakness?
I’d love to hear your thoughts – sharing here inspires me and others!

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have discovered Julia Cameron’s, “The Artist’s Way” eight years ago. It is still on my morning-side table, staring up at me while I write my morning pages… hello, fellow artist’s-way artist! And thanks for sharing words that simply never get old!
Hi Marjo, nice to meet you! Ah, morning pages! You know, I didn’t stay in the habit of doing those for too long after the program. I can see how getting back into those would be really beneficial. Thanks for the inspiring that insight!
